Curriculum planning
We establish the big picture for what you want kids to know and be able to do, how they will achieve those goals, and how to support their learning. We choose texts, develop assessments, and plan the hands-on activities to engage students in “learning by doing.” We also determine the culminating task for students to create a product and/or presentation that celebrates their learning.
text selection
We select the texts that students will read and the content they will watch. We research poems, novels, articles, documentaries, news, TED Talks, and other content that is grade appropriate and accessible. We intentionally choose texts that represent voices from a variety of cultural groups, and work hard to find texts that elevate voices of marginalized groups of people in lieu of stories of struggle.
lesson planning
We write lesson plans that are aligned with an overall curriculum plan. Lessons include learning objectives, vocabulary, instructional materials, activity descriptions, and student materials. Lesson plans are clearly aligned, showing how students’ knowledge and skills develop over time. Our lesson plans explicitly show what teachers should be doing, what students should be doing, and organize how to achieve the lesson within the allotted time.
