Black History Class

Black History is Everyone’s History. The creativity and artistic expression of Black people has influenced and inspired the nation and beyond. Through visual arts, dance, chorus, theater, and creative writing, all youth of all cultures have fun creating their own art inspired by Black History.


Black History of art

Students learn about influential Black visual artists in American history and create their own artwork inspired by each artist. 

Students showcase their pieces in an Art Exhibition.

Black history of dance

Students learn dance art forms invented by Black performers and their historical significance.  

Students celebrate Black History in a dance performance.

Students learn to sing inspirational songs by Black singers and about their historical significance. 

Students perform songs from Black History in a concert.

Students learn acting techniques and study Black playwrights. Students write monologues and scenes that portray Black leaders from American history.  

Students perform their work in a theatrical production.

Students write their own short stories inspired by the characters, settings, and story arcs of short stories by Black authors.  

Students publish an anthology of their short stories.
